While we were at a playdate at one of the little girl’s houses, LJ became fascinated with her Zhu Zhu pets. He held back his full excitement since he felt it was a “girl’s toy”, but I could tell he was entranced by them.

I reminded him that he has a birthday coming up and pretty much forgot about the conversation until the FedEx man arrived later that day with a HUGE box.

1. Buy an extra set of triple-A batteries. Better yet, a set of rechargeable triple-A batteries. You don’t want your new pet hamster to run out of juice when you’re just starting to have fun with it do you?

2. These furry little critters zoom along pretty quickly: be sure to keep hair, small fingers, shoelaces, etc. away from the motorized wheels that power your pets to prevent entanglement and pinched skin.

3. If your child wants to sleep with their Zhu Zhu Pets, be sure to take the batteries out! These hamsters aren’t made to be sleeping buddies. But if your child must take it to bed with them, removing the batteries will help to insure a peaceful nights sleep for your child, without the risk of tangled hair or pinched skin.

4. These hamsters work best when played with on smooth surfaces (hard floors, hamster accessory play sets.) Putting them on soft surfaces like carpet may damage your hamster so try not to do it. Also keep them away from outside elements such as sand, dirt, water, and grass.

5. Zhu Zhu Pets are designed to be played with by you and your child(ren); don’t let your dog use them as a chew toy if you want to keep your hamster “alive” for any amount of time.

6. While the cuddly hamsters can handle bumping into things on their own, don’t forcefully throw, bump, or crush them as hard impacts may cause your hamster to stop working.

7. Be sure your child is mature enough for their new hamster friend. The recommended age range is 4+ for these cuddly hamsters.

One night the little guy got accidentaly crushed in a door. I used to ??t h?m r?n around for exercise, and he was on one of those runs when my sister opened the door and he got squeezed between the frame and the door. Blood was pouring out of h?? nose, and h?? legs looked broken. Mom h????? me patch h?m up as best we ?????, and then it was a long night of waiting. It was my first experience of watching helplessly while something — or someone — struggled to survive. I learned something that night. A hard lesson for an eight year ancient, but a good education nonetheless.

A few years ago my wife brought home a hamster that belonged to one of her client’s children. Th? kid had grown bored of the hamster, and the poor thing sat completely neglected on a shelf in h?? room.
